John Lewis Partnership – Serenity Spa – Building & Spa Refurbishment
In one of their exclusive Hotels the John Lewis Partnership had an underutilised suite of Conference Rooms below a Restaurant with a long since condemned external balcony. This project then was two-fold, turn the Ground Floor into a Spa and install a new balcony suitable for alfresco dining, all for £250K and within the strict Conservation Area constraints!
The project underwent numerous Value Engineering exercises and redraws before the finished article ticked all the boxes, then came the simple task of carrying it out and all as winter approached. Externally a bespoke structural steel balcony was designed with new decking, ornate balustrades and hardwood handrails, with the new steel columns clad sympathetically in Iroko. Below the balcony new external cladding, fire rated fully glazed doors and the hard landscaping completed the transformation of the façade of this former boathouse.
Internally everything was totally stripped out and the following were installed, drainage, flooring, soundproofing to the new ceilings and walls along with new power, data, air conditioning and lighting, plus all the internal bespoke joinery. This ensured that the old Conference Centre was transformed into a tranquil Spa where clients now enjoy a range of wonderful treatments in the privacy of their own room or nail treatments etc in the larger open plan area and the balcony above allows diners to enjoy wonderful views of the river below.
